Mutonji's debut short story collection Shut Up You're Pretty received the Edmund White Award for debut fiction. Winners were honoured across seven categories, including lesbian nonfiction, gay nonfiction, lesbian poetry, gay poetry, LGBTQ fiction, debut fiction and trans and gender-variant literature. The Publishing Triangle Awards, worth $1,000, annually honour the best in LGBTQ literature. Canadian writers Téa Mutonji and Kai Cheng Thom are among the seven winners of the 2020 Publishing Triangle Awards, with their books Shut Up You're Pretty and I Hope We Choose Love, respectively.
